I did.  I shut everything off I wasnt using, which I normally do anyway, but I shut down the PC, turned off the lights, and about 5 minutes later my 4 year old was upset that I had switched off his cartoons.  Needless to say he got his wish.  I had no idea that earth hour was global, and how many cities and nations took part.  Denver was hella dark tonight.  In looking at the website dedicated to Mother Earths best interests, it pains me that there are people in the world who would take something as simple and innocent as this and turn it into a political/religious argument, which is the goings on with their forums and postings.  Opinions aside, I think every human could agree that conserving energy for 1 hour out of your life, even if its only a few lights, would be helpful.  fuckin humans.

If I'm not mistaken, it was 8pm local time, so it was a like a "rolling" lights out.  At least that's what it was last year.  I thought about doing it, but my inner cynic won out.  Turning my lights off would not have made a difference in energy consumption.  Hate to rain on the parade, but you probably could conserve more energy for that hour by unplugging your refrigerator/freezer and shutting off the water heater and turning your thermostats off.

I agree with the politicizing sentiment... its because of ppl like Al Gore that we even have a Green Movement.  Last I checked he was a politician and ManBearPig killer, not a scientist.  I'm so tired of the green movement and their holier than thou campaigh that they;ve pushed the last several years.  I want to go out, shoot a polar bear and cook him over an oil fire made from windmills and solar panels.  Just to spite them.  And I happen to like polar bears...   tickedoff

I see a lot of pictures of people burning what I assume are petroleum based candles, which probably produce as much CO2 as turning off a lightbulb for an hour saves.  I didn't do anything because I already live a fairly efficient lifestyle.  angel

I think they're a non-profit so they'd have to spend all of their money each year. Might as well spend it on cinema monitors and Aeron chairs.  Thumbs Up

I don't want to be all cynical on the earth hour event, but it seems like a total blackout would have been a less hypocritical deal.

I think everyone could save some energy...we spend a lot of useless energy during our days...
Computers, lights, airconditioners, and so on...  We are too usual to use energy for everything we need to do.
If we start to think that sometimes we can save energy and shut down our PCs or our lights then things will go better for our planet and for us too.

The only way the Earth is going to survive Humans is either a fundamental shift in the way humans live life.....from parasitic relationship to a symbiotic one......or to eliminate about 5.5 billion of us.....other then that there is no chance.
