I have 4 boys 4-14 ... my biggest advice... Do not play fight with them (a lot at least)... I think it makes them wild all the time.. and it kinda hard when you just want to relax and chill with him... and he wants to playfight.
more to come.........

I don't have kids or nothing but Surf is right. Reading from an early age has given me a huge leg up. And I know my parents read to me a lot as well.
I'd say keep'em away from tv as well.

especially crap like dora the explorer and so called educational television. reading will do more to educate your child than tv ever could. i cant speak bad about tv though because when you want to relax its instant stimulation and it takes there attention off you. i raised my sisters son for 2 years, i say raise cause she worked and i was home alot more, my mom dealt wiht him while i was in school i took him to my pad when i got out of school, i was in college at the time.

(your name here), what you just said is one of the most insanely, idiotic things I have ever heard. No where in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

i dont have kids but ive been told if you talk normaly and not do the 'baby talk' thing to the child, they start speaking earlier. i dont know if its true or not, it has something to do with the baby understanding the concept of speech.

big stick.I too have 4 cubs from 10 months to 14 years and let me tell you dude, walk soft and carry a big stick. I made the mistake of allowing my 5 year old to start playing games and now thats all he wants to do. read to them at night, get them outside, throw a football with them when they get older, the biggest thing a parent can fuck up with is acting more like a friend to their kids than a parent. it seems wrong, but you have to heed my words. parents arent their to be your buddy. there are times where a situation determines friend-like chatter and interaction i.e fishing, skiing, playing games, etc.

I have helped raise a lot of kids and also watched a few get raised as I was 5- 10 years older then all my siblings. The only real advice I can give is going to go hand in hand with baby talk. I know kids that got didnt stop baby talking till they were 10 years old....DO NOT do it.
I like to explain things completely whenever I get a chance too. Not only does it giv eyou a chance to brush up on your own knowledge but tey will see that you are talking to them like an adult and much like the reading it helps.
I love reading and I love reading to kids. When my cousin and my best friends kid were both old enough to talk and they would see me reading a book that was a little beyond there comprehension. I would have them point at each word and repeat it with me. Not sure if it did much but we got some 1 on 1 time and they loved it.

If you can afford it get them in preschool as soon as he can shit and piss in a toilet. I did that for my boys and they were always ahead of the class. Get him interested in reading, and using his imagination.
