So my brother has been letting his computer sit for the better part of almost 2 years and is giving me his computer for next to nothing. Here are the specs:
Antec 900 Case ASUS M2N-SLI Deluxe AM2 NVIDIA nForce 570 SLI MCP ATX AMD Motherboard AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Brisbane 2.6GHz Socket AM2 65W Dual-Core Black Edition Patriot Extreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800
Parts I already have include and will be swapping over will be two HDDS, my Antec NeoHE PSU, cd/dvd drive.
The only thing I want to change from the whole setup is get a new video card so I can jump on board BC2 with you fellas. What are the latest and greatest out there currently? I'm willing to spend upwards of $150 max.

In the $150 price range the nvidia GTS 250 or ATI 5770 are probably the best you can get. ATI 5750 is a little cheaper at $100-150 range and pretty close to the GTS 250 in performance.

I paid $170 after MIR for this ATI HD4870 about 14 months ago, and it runs BC2 with moderate-high settings pretty smoothly. I'd agree with Rider that the 5770 or 5750 are your best bet. Unless you hate ATI. I found quite a few 5770s that fit that range on Newegg, but a lot of them were PCI-E 2.1 x16... not sure if thats compatible with your PCI-E 2.0 board? Something to keep in mind. Only suggestion I'd make is that it has plenty of output types; I like to think if I'm spending 150-200 on a card, I want to be able to do more than just use it for a monitor, but as a TV/BluRay Source too. Multiple HDMI is always a plus.

I run BF2 on a slightly OC'd 4870 and it rocks. GEt the 5870 if it is in your price range though.

So, what are the differences between 5770 and 5870? I see that they are both 1GB? I'm a noob...

I am not an ATI person but I am assuming that the other model has a higher clock speed for shaders and memory. you have to look at the specs and compare them. the 1 gig just lets you play games at a higher resolution like in crysis for instance. go with the faster clock speeds.

Ant is right; the 5800 series has faster clock speeds and more "stream processor" units--basically it will process more, faster. For your range and games, again, the 5700 series is pretty damn good. I'd look @ the clock speeds and SPUs.

check out the 4850 if you can find a gddr5 version. Slower gpu clock speed(you can oc it, its got alot of breather room) but its memory clock is higher and its got double the bandwidth.
