Listen up Californians

I got a few thoughts about this, and I'm wandering what some of us who live in Calif think, I'm sick of all the bs our Govenor along with Boxer and the other fanatics about this global warming shit. I grew up here in So Cal and as a kid remember smog alerts, and I cant remember having one in a long ass time. These jokers are using this as a way to get in the heads of a lot of voters. Me personally am not voting for this wako , nor am I voting for the used up Boxer, been 18 yrs and her ass hasn't done a damn thing I feel for our state. Would like to here what some of you people think about this topic.

John and Ken are nothing more than radio guys looking for an audience. Whether or not you've had a smog alert recently is not an indicator that environmentalists are full of shit.
I live in Oregon now...but, I spent most of my 42 years in California. And it is shittier now than it has ever been...for a variety of reasons. My view is that with the amount of people in that state (5th largest economy in the WORLD), it really doesn't matter what you do...too many fuckin' people.
Or, to put it another way...In 1986 when I graduated high school, there were roughly 250 million people in the US...Now? 370 million. Global warming will happen no matter what...because getting 300 million people to do something is like herding cats.

Yep Radio Man in right, I am so sick of this place, and all the BS, and it is going to get even worse. About 4600 people are about to lose there jobs here in the bay area in about two weeks. Toyota is to blame, They really fucked up. My uncle worked for Numi for 15 years and he says it is the temps that they bring in all the time that are making the mistakes. It is like letting the blind build your car guys. And not to mention there QC. That is what happens when companies rely on cheap labor to save money.

Global warming isn't bullshit, and believing that and wanting to do something about it doesn't make you a fanatic.
And they don't call them "smog alerts" any more, they call them "spare the air" days. Do you remember having any of those in recent years?
And to the extent that there has been a reduction in smog alerts/spare the air days, that's because of California's tougher than normal air quality laws, which were brought to you by the kind of people you call "fanatics."

yeah California is the toughest on the pollution and the smog, but do you think that people give a shit, look at the far east they are the worst when it comes to air quality. i am from the Philippines and the air quality over there sucks big time. They don't have good laws when it comes to that.

Well if you gave a shit about jobs than maybe you would think different, I'm tired of a lot of things, population is the biggest. Boxer is become a joke she is our senator and she has let our Immigration problem go to shit. I voted for her and I say no more. And for the planet getting hot. Well Scientists have many ideas on this shit, our planet has melted many times before our sorry ass's got here, and nothing to do with global bla bla bla. All I'm saying is this, people make millions of dollars from our taxes with this shit.
That's another topic in its self
. It is taking a lot of jobs from the people who love our country and letting the ships just come on in from mostly the east. and fuck up our economy. I'm proud of the hard work all my sisters and brothers have done for this country. Sam Walton has probably tossed in his grave more than once. My main concern is the place we live and not have to pay out our ass's for shit the government created. Everyone knows we need trade that is not a question. That is the way the world revolves but, come on guys this is bad stuff. Ok the Wal Mart people have created a lot of jobs and are still are. I just remember the built in America saying and I just don't see it as much. May have to do with Clinton.. LOL
And as far as what Radio said I listen to a lot of radio, not just kfi as you know living in this god for sakn place called so Cal. I just get tired of watching people I love loose everything. I'm just tired of all the bs our Gov sells us. I feel we sold out a long time ago and now they bit off more than there ass's can chew, I feel we need to stand up for what we believe. That is all I'm saying here.
I would think for the most part the one's who have been here the longest are sick of paying the fuck heads way with all their bull shit. pork eating fucks..
Or you can just vote for a new flag..

Ole Man has a point about this: the "Green" movement has been and always will be a guise for savvy entrepreneurs to game the system and make a profit... case in point:
Wind power has not caught on (even after being around for decades) has always been the startup costs--hell the fuel is free... These costs are high because you need a lot of space for a large farm. These farms typically have to be far away from the load centers, so you have to build new transmission lines for them. (the windiest places in the US are typically in areas near mountain ranges and valleys, i.e. foothills of the Rockies etc.)
The state of OR currently subsidizes the building of wind farms with state tax credits. The Federal Gov also provides a Federal Tax credit for renewable energy plants. What this means is that you have lots of private companies wanting to hook up to the bulk transmission grid (which, for all intents and purposes, is similar to an interstate highway system and is operated/maintained by gov. agencies to provide regulation).
The problem: the subsidies that the independent power providers (IPPs) get not only strain the State or Federal coffers, but the electric ratepayers (you and me). How? The new transmission lines that carry that wind power are not free, and the construction and maintenance of those lines is shouldered wholly by the Transmission Provider or Utility. The only way they can recoup that cost is to raise our electricity rates.
So ultimately, the IPPs will get cheaper startups for profit-machines that are literally run on air. They're happy as clams. We will all eventually be paying more i.e. "Green" Power is much more expensive than conventional power. The real question is are "we" willing to pay more for Green Power? Regardless of the consensus of Global Warming, there is DEFINITELY NOT a consensus about whether the government should be mandating renewable energy and subsidizing the costs. And yet, the Fed/State govs. are forcing utilities to accomodate excessive amounts of wind projects, knowing full well that the only option left will be to increase rates on everyone.

Alright, here's the straight shit. I've lived in California my whole life. I can't imagine living anywhere else in the US, but there are some places abroad I'd want to spend a significant amount of time in.
Here's the problem with California: Prop 13. It basically crippled the ability for the state to tax itself adequately. We have a ton of great social services, some other programs that have basically flopped, but no one seems to be mature enough to understand that you still have to pay for it all, the good and the bad. In addition to freezing property taxes (which has cost the state trillions in income at this point), it made all changes to tax codes to be passed by a 2/3rds majority of the state legislature, giving the minority Republican party far too much power. What's been happening more recently on Capitol Hill, where the minority Republican party has been taking increasingly more obstinate positions and using increasingly more inflammatory rhetoric, has been going on for decades in Sacramento.
As far as our US Senate race is concerned, Boxer is better than most other politicians. She voted against the Iraq War resolution. That has basically earned her my vote for life. Don't believe most of the mean things crazy right wingers say about her. She's done a lot of good for both California and the rest of the country. Let's look at the lady who wants her senate seat, Carly Fiorina.
I took a German class back in college, and one of my classmates was an older guy who'd worked at HP most of his career. When I asked him what he thought about Fiorina, he had no kind words for her. As CEO of HP, she oversaw the "WTF?" moment of the decade by merging HP with Compaq. She went on junkets all year talking about how great a CEO she was, earning a ton in speaking fees, while selling off their R&D and scientific calculator divisions. A lone HP boardmember gave her 250$ for her senate campaign. HP, the company as a whole, gave Boxer ten grand. She's got no friends there. She failed HP, she will fail California.
The Governator is a Joke, and an epic fail too. The recall campaign that got him in office was a sham, mostly funded with out-of-state money. The people here basically elected who they deserve, so it seems we deserve brain-dead B-Actors.
Our public university systems need a ton more money if California wants to maintain its position as a leader in the Global Economy. Cut apart from the US, we would still make the top 10 economic superpowers of the world. If that is to continue, we need to nurture the best and brightest. The CSU and UC systems need more money to keep tuition fees down. It's just that simple. I was dumb. When I got out of High School, it was still reasonably cheap to get a college education. Since my first classes at Junior college, the price per unit has quadrupled. I've decided to go a cheaper route yet, and in a couple months, I'l be a trained and Certified Massage Therapist. Doing that, I might be able to afford another go at a degree or something.
I love watching primary election commercials here. For the Republicans, it's always about the crazy, because only the crazy right-wing extremists (ie, unemployed rednecks) show up to the Republican primaries, the rest of the CA Republican party is too busy working that day and don't believe in giving their workers the day off to vote (I wish I were making that shit up). Watching the back and forth between Meg Whitman and Steve Poizner has been hilarious. They're just trying to out-crazy each other, and no good will come of that, no matter how you look at it. It's a sad state of affairs. The CA Republican party practically deifies Ronald Reagan, a joke B-actor who we can blame every time we see a homeless crazy person on the street.
Those are our problems in a nutshell. I love this place, really. But man, do we have problems.

If you remember CNET Radio was on the air about this time in SF...I was doing Traffic for them. I so remember Fiorina and the Compaq merger...David Packard (founding member...name accuracy possibly 50 percent) fought the damn thing to the bitter end...and lost, only to helplessly watch as his beloved HP ate a giant 12 hour old hot dog (like in AM/PM Mini Mart) and then had the shits for 2 years. She's a fucking idiot savant who knew/knows how to play the political game - in politics or in the private sector.
After spending over 30 years in CA, I left in 2006. Now, I'm over 40 so my opinion is somewhat colored by age. I was down in the SF Bay Area over spring break with the Fam...And some of the good things are still there. Great weather, awesome food...and so many cool things to do. However, NorCal has turned into L.A. There used to be places to get away from it all...not anymore. It's just over-run.
No matter who was Governor, Dem or GOP, California's path has always been chosen by the Assembly and State Senate, which until the late 80s was pretty much run by the Dems...and kinda still is. You can talk about more money for education, etc. all you want, but I think many in Sacramento were more into being at the forefront of the progressive movement, rather than combining that with fiscal responsibility. There is no money.
I'm an Independent who leans liberal...but, the fucking weenie Dems rode that progessive horse until it died on the Capitol steps. Gray Davis? Ugh. And don't get me started on the shitheads in the State Senate/Assembly. No spine what-so-ever. "Yes, we'll give licenses to Illegal Immigrants"....uh, WTF? What about our ROADS, you dicks? What about our KIDS?
It may be hard for some of you young'ns to understand what Cali USED to be. The Golden State had THE best roads, THE best schools, The Pacific...and the cost of living was pretty damn awesome. Yep...it was an awesome place. Which is why everyone moved there!

It's not ALL bad, but the places to escape to in Nor Cal are dwindling. Tahoe is still a very popular place, but it has retained most of it's rural charm - mostly because to live there, you have to really enjoy shoveling snow. My girlfriend and I work the Tahoe Renn Faire at Camp Richardson every year, and even in the middle of May, there's still some snow on the ground most years.
The Sac Area suburbs are slowly turning into LA suburbs, that much is true. Roseville, Rocklin, Elk Grove, etc, are all spreading and developing, sprouting Malls where there really doesn't need to be any... it sucks. My girlfriend's family has a place outside of Rocklin that is still a beautiful piece of property, but we fear the valley behind her house may become developed within our lifetime, which would suck royally.
My parents live between Sac and Tahoe, in Nevada County (the county shaped like an old timey pistol pointed at the CA/NV state line). It's still a pretty place to live with more trees than people, but the problem here is that it's a retirement community - people from the Sacramento area come here to live out the rest of their sedentary lives, bringing with them their conservative politics and cultural xenophobia. They want to live in a place with a lot of other white people, so that's all who lives here. No cultural diversity up here.
My girlfriend and I spent some time living in Vallejo. That was... interesting. I'm honestly surprised we lived there as long as we did and didn't have to deal with someone breaking into our place or cars (we were in kind of a sketchy neighborhood - my first night alone there, there was a shooting like 8 blocks away... scared me shitless that whole night).

It seems like this topic has gone on a bit of a tangent. Climate change/global warming is agreed to exist by 99% of scientists. The fact that man and its creations play a role in this change is fairly obvious. An ecosystem is a very delicately balanced thing, adding and subtracting things from the equation WILL change the environment. Everyone agrees that the cutting down rainforests, the killing off countless species(specie?), the pollution from fossil fuels, the effects of CFCs and other chemicals on the Ozone, the increasing and unsustainable global population, the dwindling natural resources, and the expanding 2km long island of plastics and garbage floating in the Pacific Ocean are all bad things - separately. I have never met someone that said, "I love the smell of my internal combustion engine in the morning." These are all horrible things that have been done to the environment by man. I dont see why people cant look at the big picture and see that everything is connected. Denying man's affect on the environment is pure stupidity.
The real question is: "
what will the results of our follies be?
" No one can be sure.
Is it not better to err on the side of caution, assume the worst, hope that we were wrong while there is still time to change and look for healthier alternatives, than to ignore the problems and continue business as usual and hope that our existence on the planet doesnt effect it the way most of the scientists fear it will?
The conversation comes down to economics. It is expensive to change technologies and if left on their own, no start-up company with a new idea or technology would ever survive. Sponsorship is the the only way for new ideas to thrive. It is the oldest business model. Inventor has idea>Inventor goes to richman with idea>Richman likes idea>Richman gives inventor money to develop his idea>Inventor sells idea. In this economic season there are not a lot of rich men willing to invest in a new technology because they are already getting rich from the old technology. So the "Richman" must be replaced with someone and in our case the government has taken on the role of richman in the form of subsidies and tax breaks for new technologies.
The fact of the matter is, without government help there would be no development because it is not profitable to change in the business world right now.
