I remember voting on this, and from what I remember it's not to let early release of convicts, no matter what. This has got me wandering what the hell is going on in Sacramento. So lets set these criminals go because our state is all messed up. I say get rid of some of the Congressman, Oh yea we did. With the new census or should I say we didn't get another one. It's all I hear on the Radio. What do you people think about this early release. Do the crime Do the time. So sick of all this bs in here so cal. It's bad enough with out letting these shit heads out to go back to what they were doing. Yea some were scared straight but the majority is just waiting to get out and start all over.

Lock 'em up sounds good...problem is it costs money - lots of it.  I'm fairly sure I've read that we have more people in prison by percentage than any other developed country.  Also, many of those who are in jail/prison are in there on drug convictions...many of them for weed and weed alone.

It all starts, though, when they're young.  Most convicts have been in the system since they were teens...growing up in poverty, shown by their friends and family that the only way to get money is to take it - either by selling drugs, petty theft.  Of course, they end up going to gladiator academies, where they are brutalized by other juveniles, etc...and then they graduate to big time crime.

Now don't get me wrong...I ain't no bleeding heart.  Violent criminals should be locked up for sure.  And I believe - this may be extreme for some - that serial Child Molesters should be put to death.  But fully half of those behind bars are in for drug offenses.  So you could save money by getting rid of bullshit like the three strikes law, which has added quite a load to the California penal system. Judges don't have any latitude in sentencing...so, the prisons get over-crowded, and another judge orders a bunch cut loose...and you have the occasional violent criminal that gets released in the process.

I don't have any real answers, but we do have more violent crime than any other developed country....which leads to more prisons.

I hear ya  Radio, I listened today on the radio about some people importing speed form mexico, they got caught and when it comes to importing, Life sentence. Some will say good some will say bad. I say to those guys who have spread this death drug in our cities to fuck off and die, only because I have seen it first hand. I'm a recovered meth head for some part of 15 yrs of my life and I can say after watching people I grew up with die from this shit that I'm thankful I had people around me who gave a shit about me. Mostly my wife. she I can say is my HERO.. I know there are a lot of people doing time for small shit, and they get caught up in the game. And so did I, but never went to prison. I know it's a sad story for the most part, it's can be tough out there for sure. but I think if the people running the institutions along with gov they still wont be able to figure out who is the good, bad and the ugly. It's a cycle we have to live with and I think some of us are getting tired of all the bs, we pay for this shit, federal or state WE PAY FOR IT. And Calif has the largest population in the country, Wander how much Immigration has to blame for that number?

Doesn't sound too much different from what Reagan did when he was governor when he released a lot of people from mental institutions to make the budget work.  If you want to keep these people in jail, pay more taxes.  Simple.  Jail cells don't grow on magical trees, they have to be paid for.  What should be on the chopping block instead? Roads, utilities, schools, etc.?  I think a lot of people spend a lot of time being scared and don't realize that they have to pay to feel safe, and they may have to forego other things that are actually more important.

I think Oregon has a similar problem with over crowding in some of the Portland/Metro area jails.  I agree with Radio that the laws for low-level drug crimes be changed to keep a lot of them out of the prisons.  I'd much rather have a dealers get sentences commuted rather than violent offenders.

...we could implement a style of punishments where offenders lose limbs based on crimes.  That should deter a lot of it I would think;
theives -> hands
murderers -> heads
rapists/molesters -> peens

I don't think we should jail anyone for any drug, prostitution or any other victimless crimes. Complete waste of money.

I agree, The ones that need to go to jail is the distributors from way up the food chain. If people would just get off the shit,
not talking about the Mary Jane of course. Than they would have no one to sale their death to. If someone goes to jail for pot I say what a joke, those dudes [including me] spend good money on the munchies. And beer for the Cotton Mouth. I just get tired of the bs probation system that don't watch over their people they are in charge of, some of them people are sick in the head and have no reason to be walking the streets.

I don't believe the dealers should go to jail either, they're just providing a good to people that want that good. If the people want to fuck up their lives with drugs then they should be free to do so. If the dealers and users commit violent or property crime against people then lock them up. If drugs were legal and sellers/producers were able to do business legally like in the case of cigarettes or alcohol there would be nothing like Juarez going on right now.

Yea but when it becomes a disease it's kinda hard to walk away from the shit. That is what I'm talking about, along with the kids who grow up in the bs environment. It's like teen pregnancy if you grow up in it it will never stop, and we foot the bill. I'm broke like a mofo...

Right.  When it's a disease, they should be treated.  If they rob, rape, steal, or kill, they should be in jail.  While I am not in favor of legalzing ALL drugs, I think many should be legalized.  But, Coke, Meth and Heroin are just too destructive to society.  Legalze weed, hashish, etc...and use the money wasted on fighting those to the  others that actually kill people.

And...I've been saying for the past couple of years that the U.S. should just annex Mexico.  Fuck it...That country has had longer than us to get it's shit together.  Annex it, call it a state...and bring the hammer down on the violent fuckers down there.  I know - sounds nuts.  But, shit...why not?  Undecided

 I'm in So Cali and get to watch the bs everyday on the news about crimes, murders, bla bla bla. I hat the fact that a lot of it stems from our southern neighbor that is run by a bunch of dip shits who still watch tv shows in black and white. And then our shit for brains govt people always point to D.C. saying it's a federal problem when the states have a lot of stuff they can do them selves with this problem. I heard this on the Radio today and how a AZ senator got this shit rolling.

Lets hear what you think. About this.

I think they need to really get a little tighter on the border that is where majority of the illegal drugs are making their way in to the US. I went through a border check point on I10 going through El Paso Texas on my way to Florida.  And I watched how they were letting so many cars through without even checking for ID/license and when they got to me the only thing they asked me is if I was a US citizen and I said yes and he said have a nice day. What the hell kind of shit is that. I was really pissed off at the way our border patrol works/ is doing their jobs. That just goes to show you how fucked up the system is. I think they should build more prisons and just keep them locked up till they are fully rehabbed, I am sorry but that is my opinion on them. Does the crime do the fing time? I think anyone that gets caught doing drugs or distributing them should get a minimum of 20 years, that should give them enough time to think about how bad the fucked up. I bet you to they would come out a better person all around. And 50% of them that get caught are violent people to begin with.
