Netbook for work
«
on:
April 08, 2010, 05:30:47 AM »
Hey, I am thinking of getting a netbook so I dont have to carry my 10pounder sager to work twice a week.
Has anyone used this guy?

I am having trouble finding it available for international shipping. The 1gb of ram is kind of lame, but it can be updated. the touch screen is a plus and it seems to be getting great reviews. I am also going to use this to play around with windows 7.
What do you think?

Its ok for netbook and light word processing. Higher quality vid may be a bit sketchy. Double the ram on this though be aware it has one slot so you have to buy a new 2gig stick. Also consider if you are going to use the the actual tablet feature much (which contributes to the cost) and if not may want to spend on something with more beef.

I have a netbook that I love to use..replaced the 1gb stick with a 2gb stick...added an addition 4gb drive (it has a 16gb ssd). Its running xp and is good for using word, surfing the net, playing Torchlight but thats about it.
I had originally hoped it could handle CSS so I could use it to map with at work but it was a no go.
If you're not going to use the touchscreen, go with something cheaper

That is what im grappling with right now. The touch screen would be fun to play around with but it isnt totally necessary. I am probably going to pick up an iphone when my current contract ends, so that will satisfy my touchy needs.
I want something around the 2lbs range. decent sized screen 8-10 inches. windows7 (for experimentation) I can always wipe the drive and put on a different system. fast enough to watch youtube videos and saved avi files and mp3 play back. I think a decent sized keyboard is important. should have usb slots and sd card slots. Needs to handle wordprocessing and powerpoint. What company should I be looking at? I have used Asus, Acer and MSI hardware before but i have never had one of their notebooks. my buddy had a bad case with his asus gaming notebook.
Suggestions?

I've been using sub-laptops for years. I currently have the Lenovo X61S for consulting gigs, and the thing rocks (Torchlight plays well on it). I can't imagine going to a netbook no matter how cheap they are. Then again, I can't imagine gettin an iFad, either.

No Droids in Japan...only ramen making droids. The 32gb iphone is like 5bucks per month with a 2 year contract here. And i am getting sick and tired of carrying around a cellphone and an itouch.
After extensive research at work, mostly to kill time, i think i am going to get the eee pc 1005pe. Apparently its the first of the netbooks to use the n450 chipset, which uses 40% less energy. Meaning that the book can get 11-14hours of battery life.

What a douche. I have a friend who used to be friends with Steve Jobs, but stopped because Steve was the same kind of douche (wish I could say more). The MD and Steve deserve each other. The fact that you feel you can waste your money on something as dumb as the iPad doesn't make you awesome. Wasting money is easy. Making a difference is hard.

exactly. the sad thing is that he is technologically retarded....he couldn't figure out how to enter the WEP so that he could use the ipad on our network at work...so he had to ask me to do it...i almost dropped it
