If you want some laughs, click on the "Legal Threats" link at the bottom of their homepage.  Some very original and "colorful" response to attorney cease-and-desist type template letters.  The funniest ones are when they actually illicit counter-responses from the attorneys.  Grin  I think the funniest one is the letter from the White Stripes legal rep.

On a related note, i recommend the "Steal This Film" series http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steal_This_Film
I find it fascinating the some of the industrial complex has started viewing IP as "The Oil of the 21st Century".  I think the recent lawsuit regarding IP Patents that Paul Allen has leveled against, well, everyone is a perfect commentary on this idea.  Everyone wants their own piece, but how do you fairly compensate the originator without impeding this notion of "free" information?  Not sure how it will play out...

And on a scarier related note, what do people think about the Google+Verizon Net Neutrality mitigaytion plan? http://www.pcworld.com/article/202926/google_verizon_pitch_new_net_neutrality_plan.html?tk=rel_news

That's been a big sticking point for me.  This notion that someone (or someone's heirs) is somehow entitled to making money for eternity on something that may have taken 10 minutes to come up with (The Happy Birthday Song anyone? 10 grand every time you use it in a movie).

People should be fairly compensated for their work...but, forever?  How much is enough?  The Asshole who came up with, or at least patented, .mp3s is supposed to get a royalty EVERY TIME WE PLAY AN .MP3 ON THE AIR.  What horse shit.  The royalties for those are already in the BILLIONS.

This notion of net neutrality is a joke.  Corporations are still trying to find a way to make us pay for what we get for free now.  Money talks in DC, baby... Thumbs Down

I'm really curious what Fog thinks about copyright and this IP stuff Drama ... but I thought a big reason that copyright statutes are so damn long is that Walt Disney wanted to keep Mickey Mouse as a trademark for 100 years.  Literally.  And I totally agree: how long is long enough to make sure the originator gets their dues?  10 years? 20 years? 50 years?  I remember a guest lecture from one of our law profs in an Engineering Econ class talk rant about how IP laws need to be overhauled as they relate to really intangible products, like software.
