I learned about this last night when my wife told me.  She'd heard about from friends from Seattle who are sailing down to Mexico and are currently anchored in Alameda.

San Bruno is kind of a hole (one step up from places like South San Francisco and Daly City).  A friend of mine had a condo there for a little while in the 90s (his first place after MIT while he was at Oracle), but I don't know anybody there now.  I live over 25 miles away.

The president of PG&E was live on the scene last night and took questions from the media.  The man did remarkably well.  He has been trained in disaster management (which means PR-spin for disasters).  He really gave a clinic on it.  He was probably full of shit, but goddamn he was awesome at it.  Shocked

I heard on the news that the pipe was only three feet down, that seems kinda high if you ask me. I don't know the codes for shit like that but it just seems to high for a pipe that size..
