I'm open to changes for the video card since this is not going to be a gaming pc but I want an HDMI out port.

If you're not going to be gaming on it I would recommend just getting a motherboard with onboard ATI or nvidia video with an HDMI out. That's what I got on mine when I built my media center about a year ago, it has an ATI HD 3300 with the 790GX chipset and it works fine with any video streaming/dvd/bluray playback.

I have a HDD laying around that I am going to use also. I realize i probably could have gotten away with 2gb of ram but the difference in price was so small that i would rather have the wiggle room. I also ordered an extra sata cable just to have if your curious.

why bother with a pc?

I have 2 of these at my house: http://www.seagate.com/www/en-us/products/home_entertainment/freeagent_theater_plus/
The first one has a 350GB drive for it (my kids use it) and the main unit has a 1.5TB drive connected to it  rockon

Why bother with seagate? Enjoy it while it lasts, I have had nothing but issues with seagate hard drives. Also I want to be able to surf the internet on it. If your going to be hooking it up to your computer then back to the dock why not just have a computer connected to the tv in the first place and save yourself the hassle.

I have a dock connected to my pc for the kids Seagate...mine is directly connect to my PC so I can feed the 1.5tb drive

Seagate pwns all other HD, and they have a kick as warranty too.  Never had a seagate problem  Thumbs Up

If your going to surf the net on your tv then you will need the pc

If you don't like seagate, consider an alternative digital media receiver.  Based on what you want, I don't see why you'd spend the money on a PC when you can get what you need in a smaller, quieter footprint for a lot less money.

They don't do everything I want and for the price they run i can spend a little more money for a lot more flexibility. I do appreciate all the suggestions however, and would consider one of those if i was just looking to stream media only.

As far as hard drive brands, everyones experience will vary. My Laptops current failing hard drive is a seagate (thus my distaste for the brand) and a warranty is great for a new drive but does little for losing all your shiz. From my experiences I have grown to appreciate Samsung drives.

A PS3 will let you do all those things, right?  Netflix? Check.  Hulu? Check. Surfing the net? Check.  +games

Are you really going to try and say the ps3 has as much functionality as a computer? It also costs almost as much or the same. depending where you shop. I already bought the parts anyways.
