Has anyone heard of this?  I have done some simple research on this comet and its really freaky... I think this is the real deal... what do you guys think of this... here are some links to research for yourself... please chime in with your opinions.

VERY INTERESTING.

Take a look for yourself at a few dates on this trajectory...THIS IS FROM NASA!!  -  http://ssd.jpl.nasa.gov/sbdb.cgi?sstr=elenin;orb=1;cov=1;log=0;cad=1#cad

Correlation is not causation.

http://blogs.discovermagazine.com/badastronomy/2011/03/11/no-the-supermoon-didnt-cause-the-japanese-earthquake/

This guy is a real astronomer. He and most of the real scientists out there dont believe the moon/"supermoons" cause earthquakes. If the moon made of solid rock and has its own gravity and orders of magnitude larger than a wizzing ball of ice and gas do not cause earthquakes, what is the likelihood that this comet will have any effect on planet earth at all, sort of slamming into it?

Right the 20 seconds of her video she says that "the shifting axis of the earth caused the earthquake in chile." It is usually the opposite. Large earthquakes can cause small axis shifts/tilts.  Her argument is that because this small ball of melting outerspace ice, the earth and the sun are all aligned that will cause earthquakes. Bullocks. Astrology shenanigans. BS. Horse shit.

Who is this person? what are her qualifications as an astronomer or geologist or anything?

at first i was thinking wow it could actually happen, but the first video i dont think i can believe much since it starts rambling on about random stuff.  Anything can mean something if you start piecing things together.

The whole 2012 nostradamus theories work this way. It's called retroactive clairvoiency, or post-dictions. It only makes sense after it happens or when people pull together random scraps of information, whether they be fact or fiction and piece them together like an ugly quilt.

The human mind is a really complex place and people search for reasons for anything. We search for connections. Typical conspiracy theory non-sense "...and that is only what we know of. We know THEY are hiding the rest of the information."

ok.... our moon does have an effect on our gravity... why can't this?

but even if thats not that case... this this is either in our path, or we WILL pass through the tail debris in Nov 2011.... this can't be good.

I think that if you look at the link from NASA and line up the Sun, Earth and the Elenin comet in Sept of this year.... from what has happened from other alignment dates.. this is not good either... there has to be some sort of gravitational pull for something this close to our earth/sun relationship....

I would like you to do a lot of research on your own and tell me what you think.

But the name of the comet?  (Extinction Level Event)

The orbital period and what happened the last time it came through our solar system.

That extremely wealthy people are possibly taking shelter.

What could happen from an object this size, entering our gravitational pull?

Start looking into other stuff about the Elenin Comet and tell me what you think... this is real, and WILL pass us closer that any other comet in our history.

http://astrobiology.nasa.gov/ask-an-astrobiologist/question/?id=14416

Quote
It is not unusual, and it is not a threat to Earth.

Quote
Elenin's perihelion (closest to the Sun) is in early September 2011 at a distance from the Sun of 40-45 million miles. It will be closest to Earth on about 16 October, at a distance of about 21 million miles, which is nearly a hundred times farther than the Moon. The comet never comes close to the Earth, but it is expected to be visible in binoculars during August and October.

Quote
Comets are exceedingly small and enveloped in a tenuous cloud of gas and dust, so the only way to be sure of their actual dimensions is to visit with a spacecraft. Half a dozen comets have been the target of spacecraft missions, and all of them (even Comet Halley) are less than 10 km in diameter. There is no reason to think Elenin is any different. This means its mass is less than one billionth the mass of the Earth. Needless to say, we will not be aware of the tiny gravitational pull from Elenin.

Quote
Comets don't have magnetic fields, and magnetic fields can't change the rotation axis or cause earthquakes no matter how large they are. Adding to the craziness is a claim that this same comet caused the Earth's axis to shift by 3 degrees in February 2010 and caused the Chile Earthquake. These are simply lies; the comet was far away a year ago, and there was no change whatever in Earth's rotation axis.

Straight from the NASA webpage. Now, of course you can claim that NASA is lying to protect us and keep us from panicking or something, but then you land yourself firmly in the land of Conspiracy Theories. Let's be skeptical of people with no science background who claim the scientists are wrong.

Also check this one out. talks about all the other dooms day 2012 and nibaru stuff.

2funny 2funny  Oh god, that got me.   Grin

I'm still blown away (even knowing what I know about Physics) that we can predict movements of celestial bodies with any level of accuracy.  I think that with our telescopes we only really see a small % of the actual "sky", as it relates to things flying at our planet.  Mind-bottling.

Actually her advice is sound, but i'd say stop living in active fault zones altogether, especially in this age when we know where they are.  I'm even a bit edgy living in the shadow of a volcano, even though its been 20+ years since St. Helens blew its top.

Its funny now people are saying that elenin is a brown dwarf star. Ha!

Regarding the fault lines. Yes, its probably better to avoid them, especially now that the planet has been getting pretty active over the last few years, but sometimes there not much you can do about it, Japan being a prime example.

Right.  I'm not sure the plates are getting "more" active recent, rather we just have better recording and monitoring abilities than we did the first hundred millennia or so we've been here.  But I'm surprised these disasters don't happen more often.  Some of the world's biggest metropolises seem to be built on or near some pretty gnarly fault lines, for better or worse.  I think if we accept that, we have to be willing to accept the risks.  Similar to living in hurricane country or tornado valley.  That's why I like living in relative boring places, where the only life-threatening danger is from weirdos on the street that I can see coming Thumbs Up

If you want to talk about scary shit, look into the super-volcano that is under yellowstone national park. When that thing finally erupts...say good bye to the sun for a year or so. That whole area is active. I would be surprised if anyone survived from western half of the us.

I think most of you on the cali coast would be ok if yellowstone went, at least for the initial blast.  I on the otherhand, being only a few hundo-miles from it, would be fucked.  Bring it on you pussy-volcano.
