DEMO TUTORIAL

This tutorial will explain how to do the following:

1.) Enabling the developers console
2.) Open/close the console
3.) Make a demo
4.) Stop a demo
5.) Play back a demo
6.) Locate a demo in your steam folder
7.) Upload a demo to share with us

ENABLING THE DEVELOPERS CONSOLE

1.) Open up DOD:S
2.) Click on options
3.) Select the keyboard tab
4.) Click advanced
5.) Check the box that says enable the developers console

OPENING/CLOSING THE CONSOLE

1.) To open the console push the (~) key under the escape key
2.) To then close the console simply push the (~) key again

MAKING A DEMO

1.) Open up the console
2.) Type record demo1 into the console

When you type record into the console this is the command to tell the game to start recording a demo. However, you must specify a name for the demo in order for the recording to start and then save later on. I chose to name the demo as demo1. You do not have to do this. After the word record is typed you are free to type whatever you please. Beware though, this then becomes the name of the demo, so try and make it something easy to remember as well as have something to do with the actual demo. Also, note that once you tell the console to start recording it should say recording demo.

STOPPING A DEMO

1.) Type stop into the console and the demo will stop

The console will tell you that the demo has stopped recording. It will also tell you how many game frames it took and some other obsolete information.

PLAY BACK A DEMO

1.) Type playdemo demo1 into the console

The command playdemo is what tells the game to play the demo. However, the game needs to know which demo you want to play.

LOCATE A DEMO IN YOUR STEAM FOLDER

The demo will be saved in the following location:

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\yourusername\day of defeat source\dod

The demo will have a Half Life 2 looking icon on it. Do not under any circumstance click on the demo file. Refer to the above description of how to play back a demo.

UPLOAD A DEMO

Here is a list of FREE file hosting websites that you can upload your demo to:

1.) http://www.megaupload.com
2.) http://www.sendspace.com
3.) http://www.filefactory.com
4.) http://files-upload.com/
5.) http://www.filefront.com/

Just hit the browse button on the site you choose and locate the demo file in your steam folder. Refer to the description above to find the location of where your demos are stored.
